C’est le terme utilisé à Strasbourg, où le ''Turmhüter'' est l’officier municipal chargé de la prison.</p> <p class="mw-parser-output" style="text-align: justify;">L’ordonnance strasbourgeoise pour les gardiens de prison, datant du XV<sup>e</sup> siècle, prescrit : le ''T(h)urmhüter'' prête serment de garder sa prison et ses prisonniers avec soin. Il doit porter les clés sur lui ou les tenir en un endroit tel que ni sa femme ni ses enfants ni personne ne puissent les prendre. Il doit nourrir ses prisonniers comme on le lui indique et ne pas prendre aux prisonniers, ni à leurs femmes et enfants plus que la somme habituelle, soit 4 schillings par jour. Il ne doit rien révéler de ce qu’il a appris, sauf lorsque la justice le lui demandera. Les gardiens de prison doivent&nbsp;communiquer toutes les semaines les frais de leurs prisons et les noms de leurs prisonniers. Ils doivent fouiller ceux-ci à leur arrivée de manière à ce qu’ils ne conservent rien sur eux qui leur permette de s’évader. Ils inspecteront les prisonniers dans leurs cellules et les changeront de cellule si nécessaire. Ils toucheront des [[Gages|gages]] (''lone'') annuels de 8 livres.</p> <br />
